The Fourth of July owns some of the funnest colors of any holiday. If nothing else, the red, white, and blue are unapologetically American. When putting together your snack menu for Independence Day, don’t relegate this color palette to just your napkin selection. Incorporating red, white, and blue foods are a festive way to have your cake, and have fun eating it. Check out the following easy snack ideas below.
You can find any number of amazing Chex Mix recipes online. The sweet and salty flavor combinations are endless! This one is our personal favorite for the Fourth of July. It combines chex mix, red and blue M&M’s and dried fruit, and white chocolate drizzled on top. Check out this 4th of July recipe from Betty Crocker.
These parfaits can appear as fancy as you make them, depending on what type of glass you serve them in. This Independance Day recipe serves each parfait, made in layers of blueberries, whipped cream, and strawberries, in wine glasses. Parfait glasses work just as well.
A fun treat for all ages, this 4th of July snack by Betty Crocker is a winner in the patriotic category. Only four ingredients are needed: graham crackers, white frosting, your choice of Fruit Roll Ups or Fruit by the Foot fruit snacks, and blue Fruit Gushers.
Summer parties and fruit salads go together like peas and carrots (or maybe strawberries and blueberries). Obviously, you can put together patriotic-colored fruit, such as the aforementioned strawberries and blueberries, and also raspberries, blackberries, bananas, or apples (for their light interior). An extra twist includes buying a star-shaped cookie cutter, then cutting star shapes out of watermelons.
Another simple sweet and salty combo for your Independence Day party. Thick pretzel rods dipped halfway in melted white chocolate, then covered with red and blue sprinkles (maybe the star-shaped ones, if you want to go all-out). Lay the finished pretzels on wax paper to dry (and to prevent the chocolate from chipping off). These also work great as take-home gifts when wrapped in cellophane and secured with a ribbon.
This healthy alternative to store-bought frozen treats by Taste and Tell Blog is a great snack for 4th of July parties. The base of these frozen pops is milk, sweetened with honey. Feel free to add in your choice of blue and white fruit (the recipe calls for strawberries and blueberries). Preparing the pops is a snap, and only takes about 10 minutes. However, make sure you give them plenty of time to freeze before the party!
You'll definitely want people to enjoy these wonderful treats with! Have you considered hosting a neighborhood firework show? It's a great way to pool money to get the biggest 'bang' (pun intended!) for your buck. For ideas, read our blog, The Benefits of Coordinating A Neighborhood Firework Show!
