Firework Safety and Sparkler Safety - Important Tips

Fireworks are fun for both kids and adults, but if you don’t follow safety measures this fun activity can turn dangerous quick! By following these safety recommendations, you and your family and friends are sure to have a great time celebrating the independence of this amazing country we call home!

Fireworks Safety

  • Supervision

    • Wear safety glasses.
    • Always have adult supervision.
  • No Alcohol

    • Alcohol and fireworks do not mix.
  • Directions

    • Read directions and never experiment with homemade fireworks.
  • Remember

    • Stand back after lighting.
    • Always place on a hard level surface.
  • Dispose Correctly

    • Correctly dispose of all unused fireworks.
    • Keep a bucket full of water or garden hose nearby.
  • Pets

    • Always keep pets indoors.

Sparkler Safety

  • 6 Feet Apart

    • Stand while using sparklers.
    • Stay 6 feet apart with sparklers at arm’s length and away from body.
  • Be Safe

    • Do not hold children while they are using sparklers.
  • Shoes

    • Wear closed toe shoes.
  • Do Not Throw

    • Do not throw sparklers.
  • Water

    • Place used sparklers in a bucket of water after enjoyment. For a period of time after use the stick or wire end may remain hot.
  • Do Not Run

    • Do not run with sparklers.
  • Supervision

    • Always have adult supervision.
  • One At A Time

    • Do not hand a lit sparkler to someone or light more than one at a time.

At Jake's Fireworks we take fireworks safety very seriously. We want you to celebrate with our products safely. So before you set it off this year, please take a minute to look at this video by the Fireworks Moms and read the safety tips below.

To help you celebrate safely this year, the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the National Council on Fireworks Safety offer the following safety tips:

  • Always read and follow label directions.

  • Have an adult present.

  • Buy from reliable sellers.

  • Use outdoors only.

  • Always have water handy (a garden hose and a bucket).

  • Never experiment or make your own fireworks.

  • Light only one firework at a time.

  • Never re-light a “dud” firework (wait 15 to 20 minutes and then soak it in a bucket of water).

  • Never give fireworks to small children.

  • If necessary, store fireworks in a cool, dry place.

  • Dispose of fireworks properly by soaking them in water and then disposing of them in your trashcan.

  • Never throw or point fireworks at other people.

  • Never carry fireworks in your pocket.

  • Never shoot fireworks in metal or glass containers.

  • The shooter should always wear eye protection and never have any part of the body over the firework.

  • Stay away from illegal explosives.
